$50 USD!?! Seriously!?! Thats way, way, way too much! Thats as much as a full game on Steam! I am not paying that much for this!!
I understand your trying to give your Patreon people some benefit, to be somewhat fair to them, but all your really doing is ensuring that very few people not already backing you on Patreon will buy your game until the price goes down.
This is one of the reasons why Patreon is for fools!
I want to put this in perspective for everyone. I was involved in the Early Access for Baldurs Gate 3. I paid about $50 AUD for that. AUD not USD., thats like $30-40 USD.
This guy wants $50 USD for one release of an incomplete game! It'll just get worse from here! Are you gonna pay $50 every release? $20? $10?
Even for a full year of early access $50 is too much! I mean this Dev took 10 months to complete this release. You would get 1 release for $50! That is unless things drastically improve.
Personally I am gonna wait, buy the game when its down to $10 USD and if I dont like it, if I dont think its worth the 10 months of Dev time added to the high price tag... I will be out and I will not be supporting anything from RebootLove again!
I know a bit, yes. I have been using Itch for about 2 years now, I dont remember how much of that has been spent following RebootLove but it has been over a year I think.
I checked and I posted on Genex Love Part 1 about 8 months ago. So I have followed him at least that long.
I think that's enough time to at least observe obvious patterns of behavior.
I've watched how this creator functions with the releases, it'll drop $5 every week but those who bought it previously have been locked out. More power to him if it is sustainable for him, but like this guy mentioned while the game is solid albeit full of grammar and spelling errors, it's not worth the hike while other creators are releasing more for less
No one is required or pressured to pay or play. I’m just a developer aiming to create an enjoyable game experience, but this is also my primary source of income for myself and my family of five. I understand that even $10 can feel like a lot for an indie game, but this approach is the best I’ve found to make it work for everyone. The game will be free eventually, so there’s no need to pay now unless you’d like early access.
Just to clarify, the early access offer includes a year of updates or at least 3 updates, whichever takes longer. So, if 3 updates happen to take 3 years, your access will last those 3 years. As I’ve mentioned before, this update took 10 months since it involved coding a new game in many aspects and porting elements from the previous one. Additionally, I also updated RBL2 during that time, which was nearly 3 months of work.
Even splitting the cost over 3 updates, its still too much money. I think $5 -$10 is fair.
As far as the 'It took 10 months since it involved coding...' statement goes, I saw how long it took to update RBL2, it wasn't 3 months. It may have been 3 months work but it was more like 12 before it hit Itch. I can go check right now if you like.
Also if you wanna prove that you can get new content releases out swiftly, do it. Prove it.
I'll eat my words if you provide a content release within 6 months, same quality and amount of content as this one, while also maintaining your work on RBL2.
I apologize if I gave the wrong impression; I’m not here to prove anything to anyone. I just wanted to clarify the details. The next Genex update will be ready when it's done—hopefully within 2024, but if not, early 2025—with plenty of new content for players to enjoy.
I'm not asking anyone to pay for this; this is simply an early access option. I understand that some people may want to pay to get the game right now, while many others will wait until it’s discounted, free, or accessible elsewhere. This setup is designed to align with the Patreon release schedule, where the $50 tier grants access immediately upon release. The price will drop each week following that.
Yeah, i know! it's been 10 months waiting for an update and another 1 month until the version reaches our hands. Because first we have the patrons and then we have the mobs, unless some unknown hero leaks the game on the f95zone forum.
As I mentioned earlier, this update took 10 months as it involved creating a new game in many areas and porting elements from the previous one. I also spent nearly 3 months updating RBL2 during that time.
Considering the work completed since I started developing games:
In 3 years and 1 month:
- RBL1: around 4 hours of gameplay (completed)
- RBL2: around 16 hours of gameplay (in progress)
- Genex Love: around 16 hours of gameplay (completed)
- 2 Love Genex: around 1-2 hours of gameplay (in progress)
Sorry if it feels like this isn’t enough, but I’m just one person trying to make games, and this is what I can offer.
First of all, I want to say that your games are very good, and Genex Love is especially remarkable to me. I believe that many fans, like myself, recognize and appreciate your talent. That said, I would like to share a constructive suggestion about the pace of updates.
The problem is that your updates are inconsistent, receiving almost 1 to 2 updates per year! If we receive 3 updates or more, it's a profit!
I know that development can be challenging, especially for someone working alone, but perhaps prioritizing the completion of one project before starting another would help maintain a more consistent flow, making the process less overwhelming. I've seen countless games abandoned because of this, due to lack of focus, not to mention life's obstacles!
One possibility could be to finish Reboot Love 2 before starting to seriously develop Genex Love 2, after all it only has 2 hours of gameplay, which I assume is in the early stage. Focusing on one project at a time could make the updates more regular and predictable, and stop making more games when your hands are full. which I think would be very pleasing to the community!
If it's feasible, considering the help of a small team could be a great idea to lighten the load and allow you to focus on what matters most: creating unique experiences for your players!
Thank you for your work on Genex Love, I'm excited to see what's next.
I understand what you're saying, but I’d like to clarify a few things. Genex Love 1 has had nine updates since March 2022, averaging about one update every three and a half months. I’ve managed the same frequency for RBL2, resulting in a combined update rate of nearly once every two months.
This year, however, has been especially challenging. I’ve been dealing with personal struggles, including bouts of depression and persistent health issues like back pain, difficulty breathing through my nose, growths in my groin, and acid reflux, to name a few. I’ve also had to spend a lot of energy visiting doctors and undergoing various exams and three surgeries. My family has needed more of my support due to their own medical issues, so it hasn’t been the easiest year for development. Despite everything, I’ve done my best to keep the games moving forward.
I get what you’re saying about finding help or building a team, but I’m facing two main obstacles. First, finances are tight, and what I make currently is just enough to support my family. Second, I’m not sure I’d be comfortable working with someone else in this process. Still, rest assured, I won’t abandon these games—they’re my passion and life’s work, and nothing but death will keep me from creating them. I’m optimistic that the first 2 Love Genex update will be ready soon.

I guess I will have to wait a few weeks.

do you not know how itch works or how this creator functions?
I know a bit, yes. I have been using Itch for about 2 years now, I dont remember how much of that has been spent following RebootLove but it has been over a year I think.

Family of 5???Now i understand how the details of this game is so good💀💀💀

Cool. Then lets drop the topic and move on.

niiiiiiiice, congrats on the sequel, just started the original today
Thanks!
also can you cut back on the "know your place' stuff, not only does that aggravate me but there's a lot of in the first game
Not sure what you mean.
Atleast make a free demo 😭
Just wait enough until it goes free!
Oh it will?Alright thx
i love your game and all but $50 .. really
Ikr..i hope theres a free version in the future or atleast 20 dollars man
It will go down as it goes down on the patreon release schedule (next week $20, and next week after that one, $10)
That's good to know thanks for the heads up on the upcoming prices.
Will there be a free version
yes, probably... in a month or so or when another version of this game is in the hands of patrons.
You think the Dev will have a new release done in a month?!
We waited 10 months for this one!
I seriously doubt more content will be available in just 1 month!
We will be lucky if the next content release is out in 6 months!
Theres a good chance it will take much longer than that!
Or do you mean that the Dev will be finished giving his Patrons their copies about then? Because that I might believe.
The reason thia took such a long time is bc the game had to be recoded entirely, just like making an entire new game
